- Yours truly playing with the sony vaio’s at the SonyStyle Store in Shanghai
While in Shanghai, I made it a priority to go somewhere to play with electronics. Luckily, on one Friday in the city, I was hanging out with a group of people who were OK with letting me roam through the sonystyle store in Shanghai, China like a kid in a candy store (truly).
Regardless of your personal thoughts of the Sony Vaio computer, of compact PCs in general, one thing at the SonyStyle store really stood out to me– the targeted advertising to women.
In the US, only one computer stands out in my mind as having been marketed to women exclusively – the
Vivienne Tam HP (beautiful computer, no lie). However, the Sony Vaio ads displayed throughout the SonyStyle store in Shanghai were of another caliber altogether– classy.

- Classy Sony Vaio Ad
Take for example the ad to the left- of a woman on the “red carpet” is holding the sony vaio tt behind her back- (which just happens to be gold- and probably the most expensive computer sold in the store, just my luck).
But instead of having a model’s face or the dress be the ad’s main focus, it’s the computer- dead center.
It’s something that I have yet to see in the US market (viv tam excluded) – PC and gadget advertising directed to women that hits an elegant note.
And it’s more than that- it’s the focus on the beauty of the machinery and it’s design- not just of the people promoting it and what they are wearing :)
Personally, I like (ok love) this ad. It makes me want to buy a Sony Vaio (and I’m a mac girl.)
