‘Cuse + 6OT: Beyond Amazing.
I was forced to google a few things last night while watching the Syracuse basketball game against UConn.
I wondered, how to you even say 6 OT – obviously 2 OT=Double OT, 3 OT = Triple OT… but six? Did this even happen? Am I dreaming?
As a ‘Cuse alum I couldn’t have been prouder of the Orange- but secretly I was wondering what kind of computing equipment the refs were using to make the call that led to this legendary game.
According to livescience, “The NFL is the most advanced user of replay to judge multiple situations.Second, an emerging selection of decision-support tools can make the actual call for the officials using location-based technology. In tennis, the Hawk-Eye system is being used at such high-profile events as Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.”
If you missed it, ESPN Classic will show the Big East quarterfinal between Syracuse and Connecticut as an Instant Classic on Friday, March 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET.
The game also will air again on ESPNU from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET. (via ESPN)

Yup!! i was thinking the same thing, and too me the calls the refs made that night were one side, but Syracuse prevailed anyways !!! GO ‘CUSE!!!
I was watching that game wondering why refs still use 8 inch monitors to review replays. I think a replay should require the whole arena to dim the lights, random spotlights move around the crowd a la ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionare,’ and a huge TV descends from the rafters, dropping in front of the refs who proceed to review and make the call. Maybe accompanied by an ominous soundtrack.
I didn’t know you were a Syracuse alum; I live in a suburb of Syracuse now. That was a great game, and it propelled this team into the round of sixteen, where, unfortunately, the magic ended. Still, isn’t it amazing where the heart will take you, because, in a way, we even have to congratulate Connecticut for going that far themselves.
But not too much. lol
